About me

Hi and welcome,

My name is Sitraka (pronounced Sitchaka): I grew up in multicultural Madagascar, then moved to France, Thailand and Indonesia. I live a “close to” Zero Waste life since 2016 after “awakening” to the global plastic pollution plague during one of my travels in 2015.

LeaveNoTrash was at first a Zero Waste travel blog, the result of my passion for traveling and Zero Waste.

I was at a crossroad in 2017 after finishing a mentorship program with the CEP (Connecting Environmental Professionals) here in Vancouver: volunteering for green organizations and being involved with different zero waste committees helped me confirm my passion for environment, and I was (finally) ready to take the leap and embrace a sustainability career: yes, it was scary at first! 🙂 I started my environmental professional adventure in 2018 as an intern with IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) in Bangkok.

In parallel, I became a Zero Waste advocate by sharing easy and practical zero waste tips during talks and workshops that I had the chance to deliver, thanks to several beautiful souls who offered me the opportunity to do so; in 5 different countries so far: France, Canada, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia. And I love it!

I was based in Bali in 2019 and noticed that many businesses were not aware of their environmental footprint, mostly because they don’t know how and where to start minimizing their waste and carbon footprint. And the issue is the same in each and every country. I believe that we all have our roles to play, individuals and businesses. So, I was eager to extend my “services” to the local businesses and decided to learn more on the subject by undertaking a Green Globe Certificate in Sustainability for Hotels and Tourism Professionals. I had the chance to collaborate with several businesses such as Hubud and LYD Group for sustainable events organisation and consulting services.

IT professional turned sustainability speaker and consultant, delighted to be on this journey and motivated more than ever to serve and contribute to leave a Planet for future generations! I also consider LeaveNoTrash as one way of giving back to the community, and to achieve my mission to make the zero/low waste lifestyle accessible to everyone, across generations and across borders, one less trash at a time with a great dose of positivity!

In a nutshell, LeaveNoTrash has evolved from content sharing to public speaking and consulting services. 🙂

Thank you for being here and don’t hesitate to reach out.

Take care,

Sitraka
